Senior Football

It was a sea of two blues all across Windy Hill from Hird and Reynolds Stands to Gorilla Hill on the Nicholson Street end of the oval on Saturday September 16th for that "one day in September" when the local football-loving community comes to Essendon Football Ground to cheer on and support the teams battling it out for premiership glory.  Aberfeldie had three teams participating with only the Seniors coming home victorious over Greenvale by 61 points. The final score was Aberfeldie 16.11 (107) def. Greenvale 6.10 (46) and our own Luke Blackwell was judged the Best on Ground player of the match receiving the Reg Rose Medallion in a terrific individual on-field performance.

Our thanks go to Maribyrnong Park (Premiership winners in Under 19.5s / Greenvale in the Reserves) and especially to Greenvale Football Club who are not just a quality club full of wonderful players and members. We have a strong, fond and friendly rivalry with you and it has been our privilege to play on the big stage with you on many occasions but particularly in this one.

The valiant Under 19.5s and Reserves teams tried their best but were overcome by great play and football sructures from the opposition - worthy opponents in the local competitions. But again, a great achievement for both teams to make a Grand Final in the first place, let's not forget that. After the main Grand Final, celebrations started back at our traditional clubrooms at Clifton Park in the Jack Chalmers Pavilion where players, coaching staff, committee members, friends and supporters congregated and all enjoyed the festivities and jubilation of winning local footy's most coveted top prize.

We thank our many Club Sponsors, both major and minor, for being part of the success that we have witnessed this season. Without your dedication and belief in us as a club we would be nowehere without your generous and ongoing commitment. Just know it is greatly appreciated by this wonderful club.

To our many parents, volunteers and supporters of the club we thank you for your support in helping us achieve our goal this year.  Well done to all of you!

So that brings a close to the offical EDFL Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division season, but of course, that's not quite the end for us we will all reconvene on Friday October 6th for the annual Senior Football Trophy Presentation Night where the Best & Fairest and other Team Awards will be given out. (See link on the home page to book your seats to this must-not-miss event).  Who will win?  Well, you need to be there to find out!  We encourage all members and supporters to come along and join us - it's always a fantastic night and a great way for us to cap off what has now become a highly successful season.

Join our Abers Team App

In 2015 we were pleased to announce that we created our own smartphone application through the Team App program! This is primarily targeted at players and officials of the senior football section who will be put into access groups for improved communication purposes but standard members are allowed to sign up to become basic supporters and to receive news and information from in and the club.  At this point event notifcations and other news commence the week of Round 1 and continue for the duration  of the season.

If you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod or Android equivalent (Samsung, HTC, Sony etc.) you can go to the App Store or Google Play and download the application to your phone. Once you have done that you must sign up to the program which is 100% free. Then, search for ABERFELDIE FOOTBALL and request access. Once approved by the Administrator - and the season begins - you will be given updates to news, fixtures, team ladders and social events applicable to the senior football section. Welcome aboard!

Full quarter by quarter results of all of our games this season will be found through Sporting Pulse
