U19 COACH RE-APPOINTED

In further coaching news, the senior football section is also pleased to announce that CHRIS DALEY will continue in the role of coach of the Under 19.5 team in Season 2018. It is well know at Abrfeldie just how important a component the Under 19s are to the continuing pathway of succession for junior players into the senior ranks of the club.

Chris said "2017 was a year of change, and challenge, for our team. A new coaching group. The change of age limit from U18.5 to U19.5. The loss of several players, for various reasons, testing the depth, quality and resilience of this group, for perhaps the first time in their football lives." Flash forward to the end of the season, and "unfortunately losing the Grand Final to Maribyrnong Park, but to experience difficulty and adversity, and then have to work to find your way back, that's what winning is!"

There is no doubt that with the current group of returning players, and the influx of U17 graduates coming up from junior football, things bode well for Under 19s, which are already looking good for next year's competition.

Congratulations to Chris on his reappointment. With the support he deserves we are confident he will again use his excellent coaching skills to work closely with the team that has the most to gain as a stepping stone to senior football. As President John Larkins has noted "We look forward to the talent 'graduating' from that group of players and the potential to be developed in the coming years in the senior group".

THIRDS COACH RE-APPOINTED

The senior football section is pleased to announce that DOMINIC CONDELLO has been reappointed as coach of the Reserve Thirds team for a third year in 2018. After a highly successful season in 2017 culminating in a (losing) grand final appearance Dom is keen to take the boys to the next level.

Dom said "We are proud, strong, very unique and extremely special. All involved should give themselves a round of applause for a job well done. Coaching is varied and extremely hard, it takes all types of individuals and personalities to coach and we sometimes like to think that we get to choose our coaching paths, but I would say that this club has chosen us, and personally I am extremely humbled to be a part of a wonderful community sporting club. We have tried to build something that will continue to grow so look out because next year is ours!"

Dom's straight forward approach is based on respect, honesty and communication with a game plan built on team first football. The new routines he is planning will be an exciting experience for all players involved with the team. His enthusiasm for the game is infectious and he can't wait to get started.

Congratulations Dom and we wish you all the best for Season 2018.

GRAND FINAL WRAP UP:

ONLY TWO WORDS NEED TO BE SAID...

WE WON!

ABERFELDIE UNSTOPPABLE IN GRAND FINAL DECIDER

It was a sea of two blues all across Windy Hill from Hird and Reynolds Stands to Gorilla Hill on the Nicholson Street end of the oval on Saturday September 16th for that "one day in September" when the local football-loving community comes to Essendon Football Ground to cheer on and support the teams battling it out for premiership glory.  Aberfeldie had three teams participating with only the Seniors coming home victorious over Greenvale by 61 points. The final score was Aberfeldie 16.11 (107) def. Greenvale 6.10 (46) and our own Luke Blackwell was judged the Best on Ground player of the match receiving the Reg Rose Medallion in a terrific individual on-field performance.

Our thanks go to Maribyrnong Park (Premiership winners in Under 19.5s / Greenvale in the Reserves) and especially to Greenvale Football Club who are not just a quality club full of wonderful players and members. We have a strong, fond and friendly rivalry with you and it has been our privilege to play on the big stage with you on many occasions but particularly in this one.

The valiant Under 19.5s and Reserves teams tried their best but were overcome by great play and football sructures from the opposition - worthy opponents in the local competitions. But again, a great achievement for both teams to make a Grand Final in the first place, let's not forget that. After the main Grand Final, celebrations started back at our traditional clubrooms at Clifton Park in the Jack Chalmers Pavilion where players, coaching staff, committee members, friends and supporters congregated and all enjoyed the festivities and jubilation of winning local footy's most coveted top prize.

We thank our many Club Sponsors, both major and minor, for being part of the success that we have witnessed this season. Without your dedication and belief in us as a club we would be nowehere without your generous and ongoing commitment. Just know it is greatly appreciated by this wonderful club.

To our many parents, volunteers and supporters of the club we thank you for your support in helping us achieve our goal this year.  Well done to all of you!

So that brings a close to the offical EDFL Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division season. We wish our members and supporters all the best during the off-season and look forward to seeing you all again in April, 2018.
